About Us

Hello! We are the Photography Technical Team. We're here to help you with all aspects of the how-to side of your photography. Anything from planning a shoot or project; using a camera; working in the darkroom; working in the studio; or help with printing and post production.

We operate an open door policy, so if you're on campus please feel free to come and chat to us in person in 3B18!

Meet The Team

George Wood

Team Lead & Senior Technical Instructor

Hi I'm George & I'm the team leader of the Photo Tech Team. A long time ago before starting at UWE, I was a studio photographer & lighting assistant. I also worked as a digi tech & before that a darkroom tech.

My specialisms are lighting (in and out of the studio), digital printing and colour printing in the darkroom.

My other interests are coffee & Jazz.

Kathy Coley @kathycoleyphotography

Senior Technical Instructor

Hey! I'm Kathy, I studied BA Photography at UWE back in 2010 and have been part of the tech team at UWE ever since!

I'm the digital software nerd in the team (Photoshop and Capture One in particular) & I also have my own business as a Wedding & Family Photographer.

Outside of UWE I love to draw, snowboard & practice Tae Kwondo.

Chris Hoare @chrishoarephoto

Senior Technical Instructor

Hi I'm Chris, after graduating on the MA Photography program here at UWE in 2019, I refused to leave and became part of the tech team.

I'm still here.

Outside of tech duties, I work editorially and on various long-term projects. I can often be seen on my days off hovering around the colour darkroom.

Sam Rogers

Senior Technical Instructor

Hi I'm Sam & I like cakes, sunshine and cats.

I love large format photography, printing in the darkroom and using the studio. I'm currently experimenting with alternative practices, mainly cyanotype and liquid emulsion.

I've been on the team since 2010, after working as a photographer and working in a college.

Hi I'm Bik, I've been part of the team since 2019

I love working in the studio, and I'm the co-founder of the TTTTT (Tech Team Table Tennis Tournament)

Outside of UWE I play American football and I'm currently learning how to build furniture

Hi, I'm Phillipa. I joined the team in 2022 after finishing the Photography MA at UWE in 2020

I'm really into photobooks, everything analogue and experimenting with plant based developers, all of which I do in my own practice as well.
